The Community Woodmeadow

A place for nature and people

Nature is in decline and producing food sustainably also means making space for nature.

Woodmeadows are a combination of meadow and stands of trees. Life thrives at the edges so combining these two habitats creates messy edges with structural and botanical diversity. Woodmeadows replicate open canopy forests that would have existed when we still had large herbivores such as wild cattle and wild horses roaming free.

Our woodmeadow is still in development but it is already a thriving home for nature. In time it will also provide opportunity for our volunteers and partners to learn skills such as scything, hay making and coppicing.

We have plenty of opportunities to get involved in both managing the woodmeadow and undertaking ecological surveys of the woodmeadow. Please contact us if you would like to come and help in the woodmeadow.

We are grateful to Plantlife, Yorkshire Water and the Dulverton Trust for supporting the creation of our new woodmeadow.
